Q. How much should I spend?
A. The short answer is: there is no hard and fast figure. You should feel comfortable with whatever amount you decide on, based on your unique situation, future goals, etc. The average price for an engagement ring in the U.S. is between $4,000 - $5,000.  An old (but still sometimes used) general rule of thumb is to spend anywhere between 1-3 full months’ salary.
